Sharon A. MacDonald
Chief Administrative Officer of Oncology and Home Health Services
Sharon MacDonald joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1998 and was promoted to Chief Administrative Officer of Oncology and Home Health Services in 2015. She previously served as Vice President of Oncology and Palliative Care Services where she helped to develop the health system's cancer program and oversee the Regional Cancer Center. In addition to her other duties, Sharon has served as Chief Foundation Officer (2001-2015). She continues to act as interim Chief until a replacement is named later this year. She is a member of the System Planning Group, which is the leadership team responsible for long-term strategic planning and facility development and expansion.
Sharon is responsible for setting the strategic direction and the planning for Oncology and Palliative Care Services, including inpatient and outpatient oncology services, cancer navigators, genetic counseling, and breast health centers. She and her leadership team create a well-coordinated and aligned plan for cancer care that is quality driven and fiscally sound.
She is also responsible for expanding and improving coordination of our home health services, effectively linking these services into continuum of care and population health initiatives.
Sharon has been involved in health care for more than 35 years and has held clinical, academic and administrative positions in both Canada and the U.S. She has devoted almost half of her career to developing centers of excellence in cancer care and women's services, and in trying to improve quality and access to care for the management of disease and maintenance of wellness. She is an advocate for those in need. She has been long recognized as not only a leader, but an expert in her field.
Sharon was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and became a U.S. citizen in 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from St. Francis Xavier University and a master's degree in nursing from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
Sharon has published numerous articles and presented many papers on health-related topics at both the local and national level. She has participated on a variety of volunteer boards and was a founding Board member of the Association of Cancer Executives. She has been highly recognized for her work and has received several awards, including two San Diego Emmy awards for Excellence in Educational Video and the Saks Fifth Avenue Key to the Cure Lifetime Achievement Award.
